Community Tailgate Canceled

can

We have unfortunately decided to cancel the Community Tailgate that was scheduled for September 21st. Our students and community members safety is always at the forefront of our priorities and with the anticipation of thunderstorms and potential high winds in the area it was determined postponing this event was the safest option.

In addition, Campbell City Schools knows that the weather forecast is a fluid and always changing situation; however, out of respect for the local vendors, restaurants and organizations that have committed to being a part of this event, Memorial High School wanted to give them at least a 24 hour notice.

Student Safety with Support From Our Local Campbell Authorities student safety

Good afternoon Campbell Families,

Student safety is and will always be our number one priority here in our district. In light of the recent media coverage surrounding clown sightings, we have taken preventative measures necessary to guarantee our students’ safety. We have been in communication with local authorities here in our city who will provide additional patrols during the hours our students travel to and from school. Our authorities will be visible during all extracurricular activities and events.  As always, we encourage you to talk to your children and share preventative measures if approached by a stranger.  Lastly, report any unusual activities to the authorities or to our onsite school resource officers. We appreciate your cooperation and consideration in this matter.

Campbell City Schools Mourns the Loss of Beloved Art Teacher

Beloved teacher and friend, Mr. Russell Bailey, Memorial High School Art Teacher, after fifteen years of dedication and service to the students and community, passed away Sunday morning at his home in Austintown, Ohio.  Mr. Bailey, beyond teaching the students art, also was the 2007 and 2016 Class Advisor, 1996-2011 Ski Club Advisor, 2005-2007 Varsity Track Coach, and Art Club Advisor throughout his career.  Mr. Bailey was more than a teacher to the students. For many students, he was a mentor and friend.  Mr. Bailey has had an impact on the lives of current students and past graduates as he encouraged them to pursue higher education.  He was able to nurture the students’ creativity and love of art.  The students, staff and community will greatly miss his energy and passion.  He treated the students in the Campbell Schools as if they were his own.

The administration and Board of Education, with the cooperation of grief counselors, have provided counseling services for students and staff throughout the day on Monday, December 1, 2014.  Ongoing support will be available for students as necessary.  Parents are encouraged to keep lines of communication open with their children.

Grade Four 2015-2016 School Day

The actual school day for fourth graders will be 7:25 AM and end at 2:25 PM; however, the fourth grade rooms will still be located in the elementary end of the building.

The schedule change will place four grades on two equal schedules, providing more opportunities for all students, along with bettering daily school activities and routines.

One of the biggest academic benefits from this adjustment is the increase in instructional time.  Fourth graders will increase an additional 78 hours of instructional time in language arts, math, science and social studies over the academic year.  Another academic improvement for fourth graders is that they will have the opportunity to take band, chorus, world language, and music appreciation in addition to the currently scheduled STEM, art, and physical education.

An Incredible Opportunity for a New Public Library in Campbell An Incredible Opportunity for a New Public Library in Campbell

The Campbell City Schools maximizes educational opportunities for all learners by responding to the needs of the community with leading-edge, high-quality, cost-effective programs and services.

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County connects people and communities to reliable resources that inspire learning and foster enrichment. Thank You Board of Health

Why should people get vaccinated against the flu?

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year.

An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and spread it to others. When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through the community.

Next Flu Clinic:  Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Campbell Elementary and Middle School.  Please call for more details.

BRINGING STEM EDUCATION TO THE STUDENTS (3rd - 8th) STEM Education

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. We focus on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in the real world and in how students learn most effectively. STEM is an interdisciplinary and applied approach that is coupled with hands-on, problem-based learning.

A STEM-literate student is not only an innovator and critical thinker, but is able to make meaningful connections between school, community, work and global issues. STEM skills are increasingly necessary to engage in a knowledge-based economy. There is solid evidence to suggest that the fastest-growing and highest-wage jobs in future years will be in STEM fields and all employees will need to utilize STEM skills for problem solving in a wide range of industries.

History of Campbell

Mrs. Ladigo's class invited Mrs. Florence Galida in as a speaker about the history of Campbell. Mrs. Galida is a Campbell graduate and resident, she wrote the book on the History of Campbell that is available at the library.  The students really enjoyed listening and asking questions about their community.  They were also able to see photographs of how things looked in the past compared to now. This was an activity chosen for our social studies unit on the events in local community and changes over time.

Instruments Needed!

The value of the arts in education is something that the Campbell City School District takes very seriously.  The district feels that every child deserves the chance to play a musical instrument. Studies have shown that music classes aid students academically and help teach them the skills necessary for success later in life.

Unfortunately, not all students can afford to rent or buy an instrument and our inventory in the district is quickly shrinking with additional participation. Help keep music alive for everyone in our schools and consider donating an instrument or sponsoring a student with a monetary donation.

Perhaps you have a saxophone or trumpet in your attic that hasn’t been used in a while. Maybe you know someone who has a snare drum gathering dust. If you have an instrument that we could put to use, please fill out the required information below.
