The National Honor Society was founded in 1921. It is based on
four cardinal principals: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and
Character. The official colors of the National Honor Society are
blue and gold. The Society's motto is Noblesse Oblige, a French
phrase literally meaning nobility obligates. In other words, it
signifies that those of high rank have the obligation to behave
honorably, and responsibly to others. The official flower of the NHS
is the yellow rose, and the emblem of the NHS is the keystone
and flaming torch.
