The National Honor Society was founded in 1921. It is based on four cardinal principals: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. The official colors of the National Honor Society are blue and gold. The Society's motto is Noblesse Oblige, a French phrase literally meaning nobility obligates. In other words, it signifies that those of high rank have the obligation to behave honorably, and responsibly to others. The official flower of the NHS is the yellow rose, and the emblem of the the NHS is the keystone and flaming torch.

The National Honor Society is a service organization, and we do a great deal of volunteer work. The members as well as the rest of the school participate in a canned food drive every year. We also help the Red Cross with an annual blood drive. NHS members also volunteer their time to gift wrap at the mall during Christmas. This is sponsored by the Second Harvest Food Bank. The NHS also had members at the Cans Film Festival. There are also many other services that the NHS members volunteer to do.
Even though the NHS is a service organization, we do have one fund raiser. The NHS sells potato chips throughout the course of the year in order to pay for the banquet they have each year to induct the new members.
To be eligible to for membership a student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.000. The student also has to meet the service requirement. This is determined by his or her activities both in and out of school. Although a student is being commended for maintaining a high scholastic average, membership is not guaranteed to anyone. The final determination for membership rests with the faculty. The faculty will rate the student on character and leadership.
