Computer Software Applications--

In this class we teach Microsoft Office for Windows.   It is a full year course designed to teach the four software packages of Office (Word 7.0, Access, Excel, & PowerPoint).  After teaching the software packages we then learn to integrate them

together so we can get the full maximum use of each program.   We use a textbook from DDC and assign individual projects to learn the different uses of the program.  An example of a project would be after learning all of the basic functions of a software program (ex. Word) an assignment was given to the students to type up a newsletter about themselves and their life (past, present, and future).  The students are to then apply everything they have learned about the software program and apply it to their newsletter (word processing skills, drop caps, columns, tables, shading, scanning, searching the net and incorporating pictures and data, taking their picture with quick photo and then putting it in their newsletter, borders, finding, placing a clipart and embedding it into their newsletter with a caption, etc. etc. etc.)..

This class introduces computers to our students at Campbell Memorial High School.   Before students are allowed to take this class they must pass Keyboarding I (semester class).  In the first nine weeks (in a classroom environment) the students will be shown how to:  think in a more logical manner, understand computer terms and concepts (ex. basic computer input and output, processing, storage, multimedia, portable computers, operating systems, application software, and networks etc.), and locate and understand the different parts of a computer.

In the second nine weeks the students will be placed in a computer lab and actually apply the knowledge they learned in Keyboarding I and Computer Literacy to a Word Processing class.  By using a generic textbook (DDC) and a basic word processing software program  the students will learn to apply a variety of  word processing techniques to many different types  of documents (letters, term papers etc.).

General Business--        HScarl5.gif (6563 bytes)

This class introduces basic business concepts to the students at Memorial H.S.   During the school year the students will develop an awareness of the world of work including career opportunities, career preparation, job success and satisfaction.   They will also acquire skills to be competent in managing personal business affairs and selecting goods and services.  Another objective of the class is to make students understand the American business system as a part of our total economic society.   They will learn these objectives through book work, group discussions, and class and individual projects.  The computer and internet will be used to monitor stocks and to compete in stock market competitions that the students have selected, and to research a variety different things so that projects can be completed.
