In a continuous effort to better a student’s ability to learn, Campbell Elementary & Middle will move the fourth grade schedule to the fifth, sixth and seventh grade schedule next academic year (2015—2016).
The schedule change will place four grades on two equal schedules, providing more opportunities for all students, along with bettering daily school activities and routines.
One of the biggest academic benefits from this adjustment is the increase in instructional time. Fourth graders will increase an additional 78 hours of instructional time in language arts, math, science and social studies over the academic year. Another academic improvement for fourth graders is that they will have the opportunity to take band, chorus, world language, and music appreciation in addition to the currently scheduled STEM, art, and physical education.
The schedule adjustment will enable the staff a more fluent transition for service for students with disabilities, and it will assist intervention specialists, providing them the ability to work with most special education students in science and social studies classes.
Moving the fourth graders to the earlier schedule allows the school to utilize a title tutor for students in grades four through seven. Moreover, students who are provided interventions will have a more structured schedule.
This schedule adjustment will create a more fluent breakfast experience for students in kindergarten through third grade, reduce the number of students on elementary buses, and provide more supervision in the cafeteria and at recess. Moreover, an earlier dismissal will permit students more available time for family and community activities.
The actual school day for fourth graders will be 7:25 AM and end at 2:25 PM; however, the fourth grade rooms will still be located in the elementary end of the building.
