Senior Jasmine Woods Receives Young Women with Bright Futures Award

Jasmine Woods

On Saturday, April 1, Campbell Memorial High School senior Jasmine Woods was honored at the YWCA of Youngstown’s 23rd Annual Young Women with Bright Futures Award brunch. Woods was one 30 other high school seniors to receive this honor. At the ceremony, each student was presented with a certificate and pin to commemorate the nomination.

“At first when I found out in December that I was selected I was shocked, but then I realized how much of an honor it was to be chosen out of all the other senior girls in my class to represent Campbell,” said Woods.

Each senior chosen attended sessions to learn about leadership and other important skills. Woods said she discovered qualities about herself she didn’t know she had at their meetings. They also had to participate in a community service project together and chose to host a food drive.

In Campbell, Woods placed bins in high school and grades 4-5 classrooms to collect personal care and nonperishable food items to donate. She received a total of 500 donations that helped the group collect a total of 6,000 items to donate to local communities.

She was chosen by her high school guidance counselor and principals to represent CMHS. “When I received my certificate, I was truly honored to represent Campbell and really proud to be apart of something that makes a difference,” said Woods. She plans to continue working and volunteering with the YWCA next year.
