    Sorry that I have been out with the FLU!!! UGH!

    We have been busy working on more Greek/Latin Roots and affixes. They will have a test Friday on the 28 that we have learned so far! They should be reviewing these at home also! We have made flashcards for class, they can also make them for home!

    Writing: We have switched gears from Argumentative writing to Compare/Contrast. This week we will compare and contrast The Jacket and the song lyrics Parents Just Don't Understand. I will attach the texts and writing prompts.

    Reading: I have been working with small groups on context clues. The passage we are reading in an excerpt from Beauty and the Beast (it is on the webpage).

  • Comparing/Contrasting Texts

    In class, we have been learning about the attacks on Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima. As the students read mutliple sources, they worked on filling out a graphic organizer with relevant information. Together, we will create an essay comparing and contrasting the two attacks. The students will then write their own essay comparing and contrasting Egypt and Mesopotamia. 

  • December 7, 2016

    This week we are working in guided reading groups reading non-fiction articles about Pearl Harbor. This sparked a lot of conversations among the students. Many of them never heard of this historic event. I'm sure there will be documentaries about it today, since today marks the anniversary of the attack.  

    We have also started small, differentiated groups for Word Work. The tasks are being completed in their Writing Notebooks. I will attach the different lists in the Word Work Section. 

    Also the students read their independent novels and are prepping for next week's assignment!

    This week our YSU TEC student, Mrs. Perez, will teach a short unit on Figurative Language. Students have been quite busy learning about the different types of figurative language through poetry and songs (lyrical poetry)! Today they listened to several songs that had a lot of examples of similes and metaphors! Ask them about it :)

    Tomorrow they will work on create their own personal poems using what they have learned!

  • 11/18/16

    We continued with research and final projects to present. Most of the kids chose Google Slides as their way to 'teach' their classmates! Presentations will take place Monday and Tuesday.

    We have been conducting short research to answer questions (on student selected topics). Today we were working on researching, assessing the credibilty of websites and recording our information on a 'File it Away' graphic organizer. Tomorrow we will work on final products to present that info to the class.
