In The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, William lived in a poor village in Africa. There was a drought that caused the crops to die resulting in a lack of food for the villagers. Many died from this. Also, his family had no crops to sell and therefore had no money for electricity or schooling. William was motivated to find solutions to his problems.
