Mr. Dan Welch is a 2008 graduate of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Music Education with an emphasis in Instrumental Music. While at the Dana School of Music, Dan studied under famed hornist William Slocum. During his time at Youngstown State, Dan was accepted into a highly competitive and selective one semester program at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This program, The Gettysburg Semester was an intensive sixteen week study of the American Civil War. Welch’s program director at Gettysburg College was renowned Lincoln scholar Allen C. Guelzo. Also during his time at Gettysburg College, Welch worked as an intern with the National Park Service at Gettysburg National Military Park, a position which laid the foundation for seven successful seasons as a Park Ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park. Since 2009, Dan has been pursuing a master’s degree at American Military University in Charles Town, West Virginia. Upon the completion of his thesis, he will graduate in December 2016.
Since his graduation from Youngstown State University, Dan has worked with instrumental music programs and students at Poland Elementary and Middle School, Canfield Middle and High School, Struthers Elementary, Middle, and High School, and Hickory High School in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. In these roles he has served as a paraprofessional, private music lesson instructor, marching band assistant, and long term substitute. Mr. Welch has also served in the capacity as a long term substitute with Canfield Local Schools teaching eighth grade American History. He is looking forward to working with students, parents, and faculty with Campbell City Schools starting this fall.
